Grade Calculator

A weighted grade multiplies each category's score by its weight, adds the results and divides by the total weight. Say homework counts 20% and you have 85, and exams count 40% and you have 78. Add quizzes at 15% with 92 and projects at 25% with 88. Your overall grade is 84.00%, a B.

Weights matter more than most students expect. In the example, the 78 on exams pulls the grade down more than the 92 on quizzes pulls it up. That is because exams count for 40% and quizzes for only 15%. The breakdown table shows each category's weight, score and share of the final grade, so you can see where the points come from.

Enter each category from your syllabus with its weight and your current average as a percentage. Add or remove rows to match your course. If the weights do not add up to 100, the tool scales them so they do and shows the total, which is useful for grading midway through a term. The letter grade uses a standard scale. 90 and up is an A, 80 to 89.99 is a B, and so on down to an F below 60. Your school may use pluses, minuses or other cut-offs, so check your syllabus.
