With the aspect ratio locked, the missing height is calculated as 2000 / 4000 x 3000 = 1500. Entering both sides fits the image inside that box instead.

Resizing an Image to Exact Pixel Dimensions

The Image Resizer changes the width and height of a photo or graphic to the exact pixel size you need. Enter a width, a height, or both, choose PNG, JPEG or WebP, and download the result.

With Maintain Aspect Ratio on, which is the default, you only need one number. Type a width of 1200 and leave height at 0, and the height is worked out from the original proportions. A 4032 x 3024 phone photo becomes 1200 x 900. If you enter both numbers with the lock on, the image is scaled to fit inside that box without distortion. Turn the lock off to force an exact size, which stretches the image if the proportions differ.

Making an image smaller is safe. Making it larger adds no detail, so enlarged photos look soft. Each side can be up to 8,192 pixels, and files up to 20 MB are accepted.

The output format affects file size. PNG is lossless and best for graphics and screenshots. JPEG and WebP are much smaller for photos, and the quality slider (85% by default) trades size for detail. JPEG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white. If your browser cannot write WebP, the tool saves PNG and says so. The image is redrawn in your browser, so the result also drops metadata such as camera details and GPS location.

Keep Maintain Aspect Ratio on and enter only the width or only the height, leaving the other at 0. The missing side is calculated from the original proportions. If you enter both with the lock on, the image is fitted inside that box, so one side may come out smaller than you typed.
Not really. Enlarging spreads the existing pixels over a bigger area, and the browser smooths the gaps, so the result looks soft or blurry. It cannot add detail that was never captured. For the sharpest result, start from the largest original you have and only scale down.
Usually. Halving the width and height leaves a quarter of the pixels, which normally shrinks the file a lot. The format matters too: saving a photo as JPEG or WebP at 80 to 85% quality is far smaller than PNG. The tool shows an estimate of the new file size.
No. The picture is redrawn on a canvas and saved as a new file, which does not copy metadata. Camera settings, dates and GPS location are all dropped. That is handy for privacy before you share a photo, but keep the original if you need that information.
