Counting Down to a Date That Matters

This countdown timer shows the days, hours, minutes and seconds left until any date and time you choose, updated every second. Name the event, pick the date, and share a link so others can watch the same countdown.

The timer measures the gap between now and the target on your own device, in your local time zone. It counts to midnight (00:00) on the target date unless you set a time. If you open the page without a link, it starts one month ahead so you can see how it works. The count is worked out fresh each second, so nothing has to run in the background. Close the tab, come back next week, and the numbers are still right.

The Share button builds a link that holds the date, time and event name. It opens your device's share sheet, or copies the link where sharing is not available. One detail matters for events across time zones. The link stores a local date and time, not a single moment in the world. A countdown to 20:00 on 1 March ends at 20:00 wherever each person is. For a live online event, check the times with the Time Zone Converter and tell people which zone you mean.

No. The target is a local date and time, and each viewer counts down to it on their own clock. Friends in London and New York who share a countdown to 20:00 will each see it end at 20:00 on their own clock, hours apart. For a live online event, tell people the time zone and let them set their own countdown.
It does not need to. The timer works out the remaining time from the target each second, so when you reopen the page or the shared link, it shows the correct time left. Only the settings in a shared link are kept, so save or bookmark that link if you want to come back.
The countdown shows full 24-hour days left, not calendar dates. At 9:00 AM on December 1, a countdown to midnight on January 1 shows 30 days and 15 hours, because the last day is not complete yet. A days-until calculator that counts calendar dates would say 31 days.
If the page is open at that moment, confetti falls across the timer. After that, the display counts up the time since the event and notes that it has passed, so it never shows negative numbers. Pick a new date to start a fresh countdown.
