PDF Unlock

PDF Unlock removes the password protection from a PDF when you know the password. You get a plain copy that opens, prints and copies without asking for anything. It does not guess or crack passwords.

There are two kinds of protection. An open password (user password) stops anyone from viewing the file without it. Permission limits, set with an owner password, allow viewing but block printing, copying or editing. Files with only permission limits are unlocked as soon as you upload them. Files with an open password need that password, or the owner password, typed in.

This is common with bank statements, payslips and tax forms, which often arrive locked for email. Once you have saved an unlocked copy, you can merge it with other files, annotate it, or import it into accounting software without typing the password every time.

The tool handles the standard PDF password encryption: RC4 from 40 to 128 bits, AES-128 and AES-256. It reports which method it removed. Certificate-based encryption and custom DRM systems are not supported. A wrong password shows Incorrect password and produces no file. If the file was not protected at all, you get a clean copy and a note saying so.

Decryption runs in your browser. Neither the file nor the password leaves your device. Only unlock files you own or are allowed to open. To protect the file again later, use PDF Protect. To combine unlocked statements into one file, use PDF Merge.
