Files are packed with DEFLATE in the browser. Text shrinks a lot, but JPG, PNG or MP4 files are already compressed and barely change.

How to Make a ZIP File in Your Browser

The ZIP Creator packs any number of files into one .zip archive, right in your browser. Add files or a whole folder, choose a compression level, and download the archive. Nothing is uploaded.

A ZIP file is a container. It holds many files in one, and it usually shrinks them with DEFLATE, the standard ZIP compression method. The saving depends on the file type. Text, code, CSV and many document formats often shrink by half or more. JPG photos, MP4 videos and existing ZIP files are already compressed, so they barely change. After you create the archive, the tool shows the original size, the compressed size and the space saved.

Folder structure is kept when you use Add a Folder. The folder and its subfolders appear inside the archive, and they come back when someone extracts it. Files you add one by one go in the top level. If two files end up with the same name, the second is renamed, for example report (1).pdf, so nothing is overwritten.

There is no fixed size limit. The files are read into memory and zipped by the JSZip library, so the real limit is your device. A few hundred megabytes is usually fine on a modern computer, but phones have less memory to work with. The result is a standard ZIP that opens with the built-in tools on Windows, macOS and Linux. To open an archive, use the ZIP Extractor. If your goal is smaller photos, the Image Compressor will save far more space than zipping.

Normal (level 6) is the default and suits most mixed files. Maximum (level 9) squeezes text and code a little further but takes longer. Fast (level 1) is quicker on large files. None (store only) skips compression, which makes sense for photos, videos or other ZIP files that will not shrink anyway.
Your files were probably compressed already. JPG, PNG, MP4, MP3, PDF files with images, and Office files like .docx and .xlsx are all compressed formats, so DEFLATE finds little left to remove. Plain text, CSV, code and uncompressed formats such as BMP or WAV shrink the most.

No. This tool creates standard, unencrypted ZIP archives. If you need to protect the contents, use a desktop program such as 7-Zip that supports AES encryption. For a PDF, you can instead encrypt the document itself with a password before sending it.
