A Curated Collection of 1,053 Quotes
This generator shows a random quote with its author, drawn from a hand-reviewed collection of 1,053 quotes. Pick one of 8 categories, or leave it on All Categories for a surprise.
The quotes come from 679 different people, from ancient philosophers and scientists to novelists, comedians and athletes. Each quote was read and kept only if it suits a general audience. Weak lines, celebrity trivia, political statements and duplicates were taken out. So were famous misattributions, such as the line about insanity that is often pinned on Einstein. The table on this page shows how many quotes each category holds. Funny and Wisdom are the largest groups.
Using it is simple. Click Generate Quote, then Next Quote for another one. Next Quote never repeats the quote you just saw. The Browse by Category cards show the size of each group, and tapping one jumps straight to a random quote from it. Copy puts the quote and author on your clipboard. Share opens your phone's share sheet, or copies the quote where sharing is not available. People use a random quote to open a meeting, start a journal entry, add a line to a slide or give a class a writing prompt. If you quote someone in print, check the original source first, since sayings often drift from their real author over time. For filler text in a design mockup rather than a real quote, use the Lorem Ipsum Generator.
